Cannabis infused rice crispies - vegan edibles for everyday

For me, there is nothing more nostalgic than making rice crispies treat. This is one of the first recipes I learned to make when I was a kid. When my weed mentor ended up craving rice crispies the other day, I was more than happy to help her fill her belly, and mine at the same time.

What a night! We ended up eating the whole pan of rice krispies in one sitting – yes, the whole 16 pieces- and watching doctor who till wayyyy too late…. or too early depending on your point of view. Still, these rice Krispies are my go to when I need a quick edible or am craving for a crunch.

Ingredients

What about marshmallows?

In case you didn’t know, regular marshmallow contains gelatine, which is not vegan. This sucks because this is one of the things I missed the most when I went vegan. Soft and pillowy cloud to bite into or garnish your hot chocolates.

But then I found Dandies, the answer to all my prayers.

Where to find Dandies

Dandies are a brand of vegan marshmallows. While dandies can be hard to find, I can still find them in some health food store, co-ops or even at whole foods, in the rare occasions that I’m in Ottawa.

Limitations

While Dandies are very similar to regular marshmallows, they do have a certain downside. Rice crispies made with Dandies dry up and harden up quicker than their non-vegan counterpart. This only means that you need to eat them quickly, but trust me, it wont be a hardship.

You should try some Dandies with my hot chocolate on a stick!

Info Infusion

This recipe is not very sensitive to changes in oil. This means that the quantity of canna-oil can be increased if you want stronger edibles. THC distillate can also be used instead of canna-oil

What about a rice krispies without a twist AKA a sober version? Simply remove the canna-oil from the recipe. No need to replace it with anything

Always clearly label your edibles, keep them out of reach of children and pets, and don’t eat more than you can handle.

It’s not a race. Take it slowly

You can also estimate the potency of your edibles by using my THC calculator.

Google lead me to your website because I was making cannaoil for the first time. Your guide on that and the THC potency calculator were super intuitive and useful to say the least. I tried making this and I hope I do not offend when I say I used regular marshmallows instead of Dandies as I couldn’t find them in my area :(. Either way they turned out incredible I got 128 mg per tea spoon according to your calculator so about 64 mg per treat. I’m flying these are easily the best edibles I think I’ve eaten. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes and knowledge.

If your using distillate do you use the whole gram?

This depends on the potency you want each edible to be. For example, if your distillate is 96% concentrated, you will only need a third of a gram of distillate to make rice crispies that have 20mg of THC per square ( we recommend 10mg of THC for beginners).

I’m so sorry, I’m very new to this. When using a distillate, how do you add it? Alongside a coconut oil or other cooking oil?

Distillate is already activated so you only need to add it to your oil and heat it up while mixing for 1 to 2 minutes to make sure it is well incorporated. Then you use that distillate oil in your recipe.

I use 1 cup of decarboxolated cannibis crushed up,
1 cup of butter, soy lecithin 1 tbs per cup of butter/coconut oil, it acts as a binding agent for the thc and a little bit of water i just do it so nothing burns im usually left with a 1/2cm of water because I let most of it evaporate and simmer for 5-8h
I do it in a mason jar in boiling water to minimize smell

I made my own infused coconut oil & used this recipe. it was a bit messy, i feeel like it could have called for a bit more of the oil, but overall they came out yummy!

I made the sober version and they were so hard! The marshmallow was so sticky I could barely stir it. What did I do wrong?

I’m sorry you had a bad experience with this recipe.

Sometimes if the dandies are old, they get suuuper hard so try to get the freshest vegan marshmallows possible. Also, next time, if you see that the marshmallows are hard to stir, try to add 2 extra tbso of coil or margarine to try to make a softer mixture before adding the rice krispies.

Pretty basic recipe, as all rice crispies treats are. I use 1 cup coconut oil infused 1 bag of marshmallows 14oz and 5 1/2 cups rice crispies. There not for the weak hearted, if I have nothing to do ill eat a 3×3 piece. Usually last about 6 hrs. Thanks for sharing your recipe for a lighter buzz.

Marshmellow cream will not harden the same way marshmallows from a bag will. SO you won’T be able to cut them into pieces but it would still taste delicious in a bowl with a spoon.
